Day 1London
Overnight flight to Delhi
On arrival you will be met and transferred to your accommodation. The afternoon is at leisure, you might like to head to Lodi Gardens for a stroll amongst Mughal tombs and lush greenery.
This morning you will be met at your hotel and taken out to the station and board your express train Amritsar, you will be met on the platform and taken to your hotel. You have the afternoon at leisure before being met again and driven out to the border with Pakistan where you will watch the Closing of the Border Ceremony, quite a spectacle drawing large crowds to witness extravagant marching and bravado!
Guided tour of the city followed by an evening trip to the Golden Temple to see the `Putting to bed` ceremony, a magical experience.
Day 5Amritsar - Dharamasala
You have a 5-6 hour drive to Dharamasala today; the road conditions can be very poor which is why it may take a while. Here you will drive up to McLeod Ganj, only 9 km up the hill where you will be shown your hotel.
Day 6Dharamasala
From your hotel you will hear the chants coming from the Dalai Lama`s monastery. In the area you will notice the Tibetan population and all the wonderful goods they have brought from Tibet, you will also see many interesting sites.
Day 7Dharamasala - Pragpur
You have a couple of hours in the car today as you head to Pragpur depending on the road conditions, here you will be shown your hotel which has lovely gardens and is very relaxing.
Pragpur is known for its heritage village only 5 minutes from your hotel. It is fascinating to walk round and see the old buildings. Sadly much of it is in a bad state of disrepair but do wander through the street, meet the people and enjoy the peace.
You have a 5-6 hour journey to Shimla where you will be taken to your hotel.
Today you have a leisurely walking tour of Shimla while your guide tells you some of its interesting history. You will also visit the Viceregal lodge. This afternoon you will have a short trip on the toy train, this is a fun journey with great views and you can go for as long as you like, you only have to discuss this with your guide in Shimla and he will arrange a pick up for you.
Today you have at leisure to enjoy the local sights and explore the town in your own time. You might like to go for a short day walk in the surrounding hills.
After a leisurely morning you will travel by road and rail, via Kalka, to Delhi. Arriving late in the evening you will be met on the platform and transferred to you accommodation.
This morning you will be met at your hotel and taken to the airport where you will catch your return flight, arriving home the same day.
