Pokaran is a clean, sleepy town one and a half hours east of Jaisalmer, easily accessed from Jodhpur and Bikaner.

Local life in the town, just outside the fort walls, is centred around a small vegetable market where people are intrigued by visitors. You can also wander further to see local tailors and village life.

The area is famous for its terracotta pottery, shawl and durries, which are exported to the big cities.
