Pangboche (3,985m) used to be the highest permanently occupied village in the Khumbu until tourism created a demand for lodges higher up the valley towards Base Camp. It is a pleasant village with great views and an old monastery which you can look around.

- Mende is a small village up on the hillside overlooking the valley leading to Thame (site of a big Hydro-electric project which supplies hundreds of houses in the area around Namche) and finally Tibet. The views across to the mountains are fantastic.

- Monjo is made up of a handful of lodges alongside the path a few minutes walk from the entrance to the Sagarmartha National Park. There is a small gompa (monastery) just off the path here.

- Namche Bazaar is one of the main stops on the trail up to Everest Base Camp, and is a great place to spend a day or two. If you climb up to the viewpoint above the village, you will get your first view of Everest. You really feel as if you are deep in the mountains here.
