India holds annual camel festival: 02-01-2008

This year will again see the annual Bikaner Camel Festival take place in January in India, with thousands of Rajasthani locals and tourists set to take in the spectacular event.
Kicking off with a colourful procession of camels covered with amazing Rajastani textiles, the festival celebrates the multi-faceted world of the curious creatures.
Camels take part in races, dancing displays and acrobatics as well as being judged in an unusual beauty contest.
All of the key camel traders visit Bikaner for the annual celebration of camels as well as tourists being attracted to the event.
The evenings see Rajasthan musicians and local folk performers put on their best shows, with tourists able to witness fire dancers in the light of fireworks.
Bikaner is a good place to visit at any time, with an ancient 16th-century fort, palaces, temples and a mosque.
The fort has 37 pavilions and interesting architecture and houses the royal chapel, Har Mandir, where royal weddings took place.
