Day 1London

You have an overnight flight to Colombo.

Day 2Colombo - Habarana

Arriving into Colombo, you will be met by your private chauffeur-guide and driven up to the Cultural Triangle where you have the rest of the day to relax in the peaceful surroundings of the rural area.

Day 3Habarana

You have the morning at leisure. This afternoon you will enjoy a safari through one of the national parks in this area. The elephants migrate at certain times of year and your local guide will be able to direct you to the correct park where you will stand a good chance of seeing herds of elephants, protecting their young, bathing, and eating the long grasses.

Day 4Habarana

This morning you may like to make an early start for the climb up Sigiriya rock. Approached by a long dusty road, the rock appears to grow straight from the red earth, an awe-inspiring sight that becomes all the more incredible the further up you walk. The archaeological wonder of the fort itself is worth the walk, though the real climax comes once you reach the top, slightly red of face, to find the 360 degree panoramic view of the hills and jungle around. Continuing onto Pollonaruwa, you will enter the vast complex of the second capital of Sri Lanka. Most famous for its reclining Buddha, this site also hosts a number incredible ruins, Buddhist stupas and ornately carved tanks.

Day 5Habarana - Kandy

From the Cultural Triangle you will drive to the hill country, via the stunning cave temples of Dambulla where the colourfully painted Buddhas, reclining peacefully in the caves, form a wonderful complement to the panoramic views over the surrounding landscape. Continuing on from here, through a ramshackle series of towns, you will arrive into Kandy, a beautiful area built around the lake. You will be taken to your hotel where you can relax.

Day 6Kandy

This morning you are at leisure to explore Kandy and your chauffeur-guide will be able to take you into town so that you can walk around the lake, or explore the small church and Garrison graveyard behind the Temple of the Tooth. Your driver will be able to take you around the Temple, explaining the fundamentals of Buddhism as you observe the worshippers flocking into the temple and passing by the casket that holds the Buddha's tooth. You will then continue onto the Peradeniya botanical gardens where the exotic and colourful parks make a wonderful escape from the traffic of the town.

Day 7Kandy

You are at leisure to explore Kandy further today.

Day 8Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

This morning you will take the train to Nuwara Eliya. Once here you can visit a tea estate where one of the factory workers can show you the complicated mechanisms of the tea factory and the various stages of the production line that create the tea you will be offered at the end of the tour.

Day 9Nuwara Eliya

This morning you should make an early start for Horton Plains to arrive at World's End before the clouds! This is a beautiful and fairly gentle walk through a landscape reminiscent of Dartmoor or the Scottish Highlands - a rolling countryside with the soft scent of heather and gorse, and the only noise the gurgling of streams that merge into the crashing Baker's Falls.

Day 10Nuwara Eliya - Colombo

You will have a fairly long drive to Colombo where you are at leisure.

Day 11Colombo

You will be driven to the airport this morning for your flight to the UK.
