Fly to Colombo
On arrival into Colombo you will be met and driven up into the Tea Country. This will be a fairly long drive of around five hours.
This morning you should make an early start for Horton Plains to arrive at World`s End before the clouds rise! This is a beautiful and fairly gentle walk through a landscape that reminded me of Dartmoor or the Scottish Highlands - a rolling countryside with the soft scent of heather and gorse, and the only noise the gurgling of streams that merge into the crashing Baker`s Falls.
You have the rest of the day at leisure.
From Nuwara Eliya you will drive down to Yala, a national park where you have a couple of nights to maximise your chances of seeing the leopard and sloth bear of the area. It is also a beautiful area, and your hotel overlooks the coast with a beautiful stretch of deserted beach.
It is a long drive but there is plenty to see en route and you can ask your chauffeur-guide to stop for any photo opportunities.
In the morning and late afternoon you will join safaris into the Yala National Park. These are interesting safaris and you are likely to see spotted deer, wild boar and wild elephant in addition to a wide variety of birds. If you are really lucky you may also spot sloth bear and leopard! (With on average one Leopard per square kilometre Yala has the highest density of leopard in Asia!)
You will be driven to Uda Walawe today. Here you can visit the Elephant Transit Centre where the baby elephants jostle their way to the gate at feeding times, some cheeky ones pushing back into the queue for a second feeding!
You have two game drives in the Uda Walawe National Park today, where the bird and animal sightings should be different to your Yala experience.
You have a further game drive this morning before continuing onto the Sinharaja Biosphere.
This morning you can take a walk with a naturalist into the rainforest where you will be able to see a wide range of wildlife, including some wonderfully exotic insects and endemic species of bird!
This afternoon you will be driven to Colombo and taken to your small hotel in a rural area close to the airport.
You can make a fairly leisurely start for the drive to Colombo airport, a brief thirty minute journey. Here you will be met by the airport representative and directed to the correct check in areas, ready for your return to the UK.
