Visit The Desert Circuit
The smallest of the oases on the desert circuit, Bahariya lies approximately 350 kilometres from Cairo and boasts hot springs, palm groves and rock formations. Bahariya was under Pharonic control in the Middle Kingdom and later thrived as a post on the lucrative trading route between Egypt and Libya.
Most recently it became famous for the discovery of over a hundred beautifully gilted golden mummies that had lain undiscovered for over 2,000 years. Bahariya also serves as a good base for exploring the White and Black Deserts with its unusual chalk formations.
Bahariya was under Pharaonic control in the Middle Kingdom and later thrived on the caravan trail between Egypt and Libya. Most recently it became famous for the discovery of 105 beautifully gilded golden mummies, accidentally uncovered by a donkey that tripped and hit its leg against one of the tombs!
