The draw of Jordan is Petra, rightfully considered one of the ‘must-see’ sights of the region, if not the world.

The beauty of the country is that it is a compact microcosm of Middle Eastern history. The Nabateans of Petra, biblical characters, Classical city builders and Crusader armies have all played out their roles across a dramatic landscape of red sandstone canyons, desert expanses and salt-laden waters. Each has left their mark in churches bursting with mosaics, colonnaded streets and impregnable fortresses. More recently the efforts of the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) have created beautiful reserves, home to rare fauna such as the Arabian Oryx, and stunning scenery crossed with hiking trails. In the Dead Sea and Gulf of Aqaba, Jordan also has two great destinations for unwinding at the end of a trip.

The geography of the country is such that all the sights combine easily into logical itineraries, making Jordan a wonderfully simple place to visit. In addition, it combines well with Egypt, allowing the visitor the opportunity of seeing both the pyramids and Petra in one trip. All of these attractions draw people to Jordan, but perhaps the greatest memory most visitors take away with them is of a people of wonderful friendship and hospitality.
