Jordanian Footsteps

Audley takes to the streets of Amman and Madaba in Jordan, with two new walking tours to discover sights and sounds that often escape most visitors.

Jordan is most famous for places like Petra, Wadi Rum or The Dead Sea. As inspiring and beautiful as these places are there is so much more to the country, which is why Audley are now offering two new walking tours in the cities of Amman and Madaba.

The Roman theatre, AmmanStarting in Amman, the tour reveals a magnificent 2000 year old Roman theatre, an incongruous sight in the middle of a modern city, while a climb to the wonderful nearby Citadel, dating back to Roman and Byzantine times, offers commanding views of the city. Madaba, by contrast is smaller and quieter than Amman. With a strong Christian heritage this part of the tour takes in the Church of St George, dating from the 6th century AD, as well as the Archaeological Park, which contains the remains of two more Christian churches and a hall. These buildings are adorned with some exquisitely preserved mosaics.

How to book

Not only do these tours offer an alternative to the normal whistle-stop coach tours, but due to the geography of the country, it is possible to create a tailor-made itinerary which easily combines the aforementioned more traditional sights - and even other countries like nearby Egypt.
