Exploring the Qadisha Valley
From the 5th century onwards, Maronites made this area their refuge. 'Qadisha' stems from the Semitic word for holy, and the valley is scattered with beautiful rock-cut monasteries, hermitages and cave churches. Today, many of the picturesque villages surrounding the valley remain almost exclusively Maronite.
