The Corniche stretches along the Mediterranean Sea, a lively and popular place on summer evenings. The medina remains a bustling place, with colourful and noisy souqs selling gold, copper and silks.

Tripoli's new town
The new town, separated from the medina by Green Square, has interesting Italian-style buildings and colonnaded streets, and is home to a huge cathedral which was converted into a mosque just after Gadaffi's Revolution of 1969.
