A short walk from the Saadien tombs in the heart of Marrakesh medina, Riad Lydines (an Angsana Spa property) is on a clean, calm square set back from the bustling street.
The riad is a peaceful retreat that uses the finest local materials and construction techniques and has been finished with a fantastic eye for detail. Cool tadelakht (smooth earthy plaster effect) walls are sculpted into Moorish arches around a central water basin, whilst cedarwood doors and ceilings draw the eye with their intricate and well-worked designs. Beautiful lamps betray their origins with the artisans of Fez, whilst small details - carved designs and occasional objets d'art, complete the effect.
Deluxe rooms are spacious and also use traditional design, but do not compromise on modern comforts like the satellite television artfully concealed in an ornate cabinet so as not to disrupt the cool, classic design. The suite has an open fireplace (as do the lounge and dining room) and a jet pool on a private terrace.
The inner courtyard and roof terrace provide a peaceful and atmospheric setting for dining (evening meals consist of traditional Moroccan recipes with an Asian influence) but do remember to order your evening meal after breakfast as fresh produce is purchased on a daily basis.
