Anti Atlas, Morocco
The Anti Atlas is the hub of all commerce in Morocco’s grocery trade: banana and orange groves flourish amongst the extensive vegetable crops, and this is the only area in which the argan nut - virtually unique to Morocco - flourishes, their trees dotting the gentle foothills of the Anti Atlas.
The Chleuh Berbers are the original inhabitants of this area and it is traditional for the men to travel to other regions of Morocco to trade, returning to build large retirement villas amongst the small stone villages.
Landscape and scenery
The landscape is dominated by vast granite rock formations, palm plantations line valley floors and the region's distinctive character is accentuated by stone-built village houses painted a particular shade of red.
