    The Hajar Mountains have kept the interior of Oman isolated for millennia , and the remote villages steeply terraced into the mountainsides seem little changed in that time. In Salalah the mountains have captured the moisture in the ocean air, allowing the liquid gold of frankincense to be grown on their slopes.

A 40 to 50 minute drive from the airport and a shorter drive to the old city of Muscat the Shangri La Al Jissah resort, the latest addition to the capital, offers the best of Omani hospitality and ultimate Arabian luxury. Comprising of three deluxe hotels, over 20 food outlets and an exhaustive range of 21st century leisure facilities the resort is a complete experience in itself. It is however perhaps the stunning location that is the immediate attraction of the Al Jissah. The dramatic backdrop of the deep red rocky interior mountains contrasts dramatically with the white sands and clear turquoise waters of the private bay which is home to the resort.

The most exclusive of the hotels at the Al Jissah, the Al Husn has sweeping views of the Gulf from its commanding location on the sandstone heights overlooking the bay below. The opulent interior with ornate plaster work, arabian alcoves and luxurious furnishings reflect the style of a Sultans Palace. The spacious, richly decorated rooms all have a balcony with impressive sea views. The private infinity pool also looks out to the sea and the 100m of private beach with bar. Dining can be an elegant international experience at La Sultana or an exotic Arabian experience at the Moroccan restaurant. Butler service and cigar lounge are amongst other features at the hotel.

Please note that the Al Husn does not accommodate children under the age of 18, which makes it a perfect choice for couples seeking a little peace and relaxation.
