Approximately the size of Western Europe, Kazakhstan is a vast expanse of beautiful steppe, just waiting to be explored.

Stretching from the Urals in the west to the Chinese border in the east this colossal country encompasses Central Asia’s widest range of natural scenery. The main hub is Almaty, a cosmopolitan and invigorating city once again on top form thanks to a recent economic revival. South of the city, stunning mountain vistas form a natural border with neighbouring Kyrgyzstan, while to the west are some fabulous nature reserves, beautiful lakes and the remote eastern shores of the Caspian Sea. There are two towns of especial interest: Semey, where Dostoevsky served in the Russian army, and diminutive Turkistan, home to an exquisite 14th-century mausoleum.
