As with all countries of its size, China is subject to enormous variations of climate and temperature depending upon location and season.
Spring and autumn are traditionally considered the times to visit China, as it is at this time that a traveller going from north to south will encounter the fewest extremes, but there are no true limitations. With one or two exceptions it is possible to travel all year round. The crisp, blue skies of winter can be as good as a balmy summer’s evening. Your personal tolerance of temperature and tourists should have a bearing on your decision, and we will of course recommend which regions are best at the time of year you wish to travel.
Wherever possible we recommend avoiding the Chinese National Holiday periods of early May and October, when the burgeoning Chinese middle classes travel in great number. Spring and autumn offer the most temperate climate periods for travel and are thus the most popular periods for foreign visitors. Whilst we pride ourselves on our ability to secure the best possible services at any time of the year, we suggest booking early for these periods to avoid disappointment.
