Mongolian festival of ancient tests: 18-04-2008

Those visiting Mongolia during July will be able to experience one of the most exciting and undiscovered events the country has to offer - the Three Manly Sports.
Occurring as part of the Naadam Festival, the event takes place from July 11th to 13th and tests competitors on the experience of sound, sight and physical presence.
Riding, wrestling and archery are tested in the cultural event and swirling colours and elaborate costumes add to the mystique of the occasion, along with the large crowds and skilful competitors.
Batkhuyag Dorjpurev, vice minister of roads, transport and tourism, said: "The heritage of the Naadam Festival evokes the country's warrior and nomadic past, while its spirit captures the enthusiasm and energy of its citizens today."
The games were devised centuries ago to measure the courage and skill of male adults, but today the event aims to preserve ancient skills such as horseriding, archery and wrestling.
