From Russia - Royal Academy Exhibition: 06-03-2008
The Royal Academy’s remarkable exhibition of Russian masterpieces is now well underway in London, running from 26 January to 18 April 2008. The exhibition entitled 'From Russia: French and Russian Master Paintings 1870-1925 from Moscow and St Petersburg' represents a world first for the gallery which has gathered a stunning collection of Russia’s most prized works from some of her most notable institutions.
Central to the exhibition is Matisse’s iconic piece 'The Dance', which is accompanied by numerous works from other well known masters including Renoir, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Kandinsky, Tatlin and Malevich. In all the entire exhibition numbers over 120 pieces drawn from the famous collections of the Hermitage and Russian Museums in St Petersburg and the Tretyakov and Pushkin Galleries in Moscow. Displayed together the works detail the main directions of modern art from realism to impressionism as well as outlining the influence of one of the country’s most noted collectors Sergei Diaghilev.
