Live life like a Tsar - the Pushkin Golden Autumn Ball in St Petersburg: 12-06-2008

Catherine Palace, St PetersburgHeld annually in the opulent Catherine Palace, once home to Russia’s most famous imperial dynasty, the Pushkin Ball is the most eagerly anticipated event of St Petersburg’s Autumn season.

Named in honour of Russia’s most famous writer and held in the town in which he studied as a child, the ball mirrors those held at the height of the 19th century boasting top entertainment, exquisite dining and dancing into the evening in some of the palaces most beautiful ballrooms.

Hosted by the Grand Hotel Europe, reputedly Russia’s oldest hotel, the event regularly attracts guests from all over the world keen to combine a taste of imperial Russia with a visit to one of her most beautiful cities.

All proceeds from the event are donated to selected charities located in and around St Petersburg and Moscow. Last year these included: The Number 15 Children’s Hospital, a foundation which ensures the welfare of orphans and foster children in St Petersburg, The Pushkin House Museum and the Bykovo Orphanage, in Moscow.
