    In some of the more rural parts of the country ethnic minority groups can be found in large numbers. Many of the same tribes that are found in Laos, Cambodia and Thailand have also settled in Yunnan province and also in Guizhou and Guangxi. Many still wear there traditional dress and so a visit to these regions is often a colourful one!

The Aman at Summer Palace

A former retreat of the Emperors, the resort encompasses a number of buildings well over a century old originally used by guests of the Empress Dowager Cixi.

The Aman boasts nine spa treatment rooms, a 25m pool, a fully fitted gym and two squash courts. Along with the Chinese and Cantonese cuisine, the Aman has a Japanese chef skilled at French Kaiseki - French cuisine with the attention to design and detail of the finest Japanese food. There is also a Western-style grill, offering grilled-to-order meals.

Guests have exclusive out of hours access to the Summer Palace through a private gate from the hotel to the grounds of the palace. Enter early in the morning to beat the crowds and enjoy a unique atmosphere.
