When is the best time to see the Wall?

Mid-March to the end of May and mid-September to mid-November is more likely to have clear weather, making for the best views of the Wall. The summer months will be warm, but as long as you drink plenty of water you should be fine. In the winter months it will obviously be cold – but if you are prepared for it, the Wall looks beautiful under snow, snaking its way across a wintery landscape.

Where is the best place to see the Wall?

Most people visit the Wall when in Beijing. We suggest you escape the crowds by driving out of the city to a spot called Jinshanling, which can be visited as a day trip from Beijing. There are far less visitors here and the Wall is in excellent condition. Here, the Wall can be seen snaking over the hills into the distance.

Do I need to be fit to see the Wall?

There is a walk of around 20 minutes up to the wall itself, but this need not be strenuous. The wall has many steep steps but this need only be a problem if you plan to walk along it. If you would like to do a full walk along the Wall you should be reasonably fit and wear stout walking shoes.
