    In some of the more rural parts of the country ethnic minority groups can be found in large numbers. Many of the same tribes that are found in Laos, Cambodia and Thailand have also settled in Yunnan province and also in Guizhou and Guangxi. Many still wear there traditional dress and so a visit to these regions is often a colourful one!

A night in a local guesthouse amongst the terraces offers the adventurous a fabulous opportunity to escape the bustle of modern China and experience a traditional rural way of life.

Guided walks of all lengths can also be organised between the many villages that dot the hillsides. The crowds have not yet made it to this region, though they will not be long in coming - our recommendation is to get there soon and savour the atmosphere before they do.
