As part of the Tianmu Mountains, Moganshan is located 60km north of Hangzhou and is a wonderful escape from the hustle of the bigger cities in the region.
Although this picturesque area originally developed in popularity during the 1900s when Europeans retreated to their colonial villas to avoid the intense summer heat of nearby Shanghai, it has recently seen a resurgence in popularity following Mark Kitto's book 'China Cuckoo'.
The dramatic mountain and bamboo forest scenery offers a fantastic back drop for the more energetic, who may wish to take advantage of the hiking or cycling available in the surrounding area.
