Yellow Dragon Caves, Zhangjiajie
Zhangjiajie (Pronounced 'Jang-Jar-Jeer') lies in the northern part of Hunan Province. The area is a by-word for scenery, much of it part of the designated Forest National Park - the first in China.
A visit here is recommended for hikers and those looking to get away from 'Big City China'. The city of Zhangjiajie, though you've likely never heard of it is nevertheless a significant town in Hunan, with a population of more than 1 million and a booming tourist industry to go with it.
The main scenic area is to the north east and therefore clear of the city, near Wulingyuan. This is still a small, but rapidly developing town ideally located for exploring all that this stunning UNESCO world heritage park has to offer.
