In some of the more rural parts of the country ethnic minority groups can be found in large numbers. Many of the same tribes that are found in Laos, Cambodia and Thailand have also settled in Yunnan province and also in Guizhou and Guangxi. Many still wear there traditional dress and so a visit to these regions is often a colourful one!

Victoria Cruises

The Yangtze River, China
  • Cruises, Sailing & Water
  • Multi-day Tours

There are a number of companies operating cruises on the Yangtze River, and Victoria Cruises is one of the best.

There are a number of different styles of ship in the Victoria operation, but the majority are of an elegant dark wood and polished brass, traditional atmosphere.

Most ships have an outdoor observation deck, and indoor viewing for when the weather is less clement, with a walkway running around the outside of the ship allowing for uncrowded contemplation of the magnificent scenery.

With approximately 100 cabins on the smaller vessels, and 180 cabins on the new Katarina and Anna, the atmosphere onboard is relaxed and uncrowded with guests able to dine in one sitting in the ship's restaurant. Guests will be invited to sit at a particular table, usually with 8 or 10 people per table, and will generally remain at this table throughout the cruise.

All meals are included onboard and include a buffet style breakfast and lunch with a set menu for dinner. For a supplement of USD 40 per person per day guests are also able to access the private a la carte dining room now available on each of the ships. This can be arranged while on board, or if you would like to confirm in advance please speak to your consultant.

The standard cabins are very comfortable and have ensuite facilities with a bath/shower. All are equipped with twin beds, desks, TV and adequate storage space, and the majority now boast a small balcony following recent refits.

Other facilities onboard include a bar with dance floor and karaoke, a small gym, a library and overnight laundry service.
