Accommodation in Japan: Kyoto Okura Hotel

Our Rating: Deluxe

Kyoto Okura Hotel

Kyoto

From the outside this hotel is not much to write home about, but once inside our reasons for choosing the Okura Hotel as our preferred central hotel become more apparent.

The rooms are pleasantly decorated and of a good size with views over the entire city. However, as with many hotels in Japan twin rooms far outnumber doubles and in the case of the Okura twin rooms are the standard room category, with doubles priced at a considerably higher tariff.

Please let us know if you would like to be quoted for a double room and also note that we cannot guarantee double room availability in this hotel.

The main draw of the Okura is undoubtedly its location in the heart of Kyoto, convenient for the main entertainment and sightseeing districts.

This deluxe hotel enjoys a wonderful reputation with the local Japanese, as the best for service and with fine food. It is hard to argue.

Our opinion: Despite its austere outer shell, the Kyoto Okura Hotel is a well run property with the best location of any hotel in Kyoto. Modern rooms, friendly service and all the mod cons of a good international hotel.
