Stay in Ryokan Accommodation

A stay in a ryokan, or traditional Japanese inn, is a highlight of any trip to Japan, with wonderful hospitality, food and bathing.

One of the real delights of a trip to Japan is the experience of traditional Japanese hospitality, delicious food and relaxing bathing that are typical of a stay in a ryokan.

A ryokan differs significantly from a Western-style hotel in a number of ways and the interactive guide below, exploring inside a ryokan gives a brief overview of what to expect.

Types of ryokan

Yoshikawa RyokanThere are many different types of ryokan, just as there are many different types of hotel. The choice ranges from traditional, high class establishments (such as Kyoto’s wonderful Yoshikawa) to fashionable, modern options and more homely, informal choices (the Kawaguchi being an excellent example). This means, of course, that selecting the right one for you is very important. There is usually a ryokan to suit most tastes and budgets.

Whichever ryokan you choose you will gain a true insight into authentic Japanese traditions, but most of all you will be in for an absolutely wonderful and relaxing stay.
