Fly overnight from London to Tokyo.
Arrival in Tokyo, where you are met by our local representative and assisted with exchanging your rail pass and your transfer to your city centre hotel.
Explore Tokyo at your own pace.
Take the bullet train to Kyoto, Japan's cultural heartland. Take the afternoon to visit some of the beautiful shrines, temples and gardens that dot the city.
This morning take the opportunity to try your hand at a cultural activity such as origami or calligraphy before visiting nearby Nara and the Todaiji temple there in the afternoon.
Pick up a hire car and drive to Amanohashidate, one of Japan's three most scenic spots. Admire the view over the coast before picking up your hire car and driving west to Tottori.
Explore the Tottori coast by car, including the sand dunes.
Drive to Matsue by car, stopping off to see Mount Daisen.
Explore Matsue, including the castle and then take the train to the pottery town of Hagi. The afternoon is at leisure.
Day 10Hagi - Tsuwano
Explore Hagi this morning and then travel by train to Tsuwano to see the many koi carp filled ponds!
Continue your explorations of Tsuwano and then take the train to Hiroshima.
Visit the evocative Peace Park and Memorial Museum in the morning and then cross over by ferry to the scenic Miyajima Island.
Return to Tokyo by bullet train for your final afternoon in Japan.
Take a shared limousine bus to the airport for your return flight home.
