Suggestions for how to extend your trip

There are plenty of ways to change this sample itinerary, either to extend your stay or experience different areas in more detail. Our tailor-made suggestions are...

  • Add in an extra week to visit Kyushu island in the south, home to volcanoes and hot springs.
  • If temple lodgings do not appeal then replace Koyasan with a stay on Naoshima in the Inland Sea.
  • In the summer take two days to visit the Noto Peninsula, north of Kanazawa for rugged coastal scenery.
  • For beach scenery visit the Izu Peninsula, a couple of hours from Tokyo.
