Visit Hakone & Mt Fuji, Japan

Hakone itself is situated in the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park which also encompasses Mt Fuji, Fuji Five Lakes and the Izu Peninsula. On a clear day Mt Fuji can be viewed from as far away as Tokyo.

Hakone & Mt Fuji

Japan

Head westwards from bayside Tokyo and the land immediately becomes more mountainous, offering beautiful alpine scenery and some fantastic locations for sampling hot spring bathing.

Hakone itself is situated in the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park which also encompasses Mt Fuji, Fuji Five Lakes and the Izu Peninsula. It is commonly referred to as simply the Hakone National Park. It is also the gateway to a scenic sightseeing loop, best visited utilising the good value Hakone Free Pass ticket.

Mount Fuji

Towering above the whole is Japan’s foremost natural sight, the majestic Mount Fuji, whose iconic snowcapped peak has been portrayed in countless works of Japanese art and literature. It is said in Japan that a wise man climbs Mount Fuji once in his life, but only a fool climbs it twice. Sadly Fuji is notoriously shy and is often cloud-bound, leading us to believe that the wisest of all stay at a safe distance relaxing in the Hakone National Park. With luck you will be able to catch a glimpse of Fuji’s snow-capped summit from the comfort of a hot spring bath!

On a clear day Mt Fuji can be viewed from as far away as Tokyo, but also from many other spots in the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park.
