St Petersburg, Russia.
A river cruise between Moscow and St Petersburg is a relaxing way to see Russia's two main cities, as well as some fascinating towns and villages in between.
Both cities are explored in depth and on a typical trip with two full days to explore Moscow, and three for St Petersburg. There is a full programme of excursions throughout, including a visit to the world famous Hermitage Ballet in St Petersburg.
The journey between the two mighty cities takes in some of Russia's historic so-called 'Golden Ring' towns - many of which pre-date Moscow and St Petersburg.
You'll also stop off at a number of villages on the journey, giving you a taste of life in Russia away from the hustle and bustle of the two primary cities.
The American-managed MS Tolstoy travels between the two cities via the mighty River Volga, and offers a good standard of accommodation on the best river boat available in Russia. All cabins are en-suite, and there is a full (optional) programme of history lectures, entertainment and even language classes.
This is a good-value and comprehensive trip, ideal for those who want to see as much of Russia as possible. It can get booked up far in advance, so early booking is recommended.
The MS Tolstoy is one of the more comfortable ships cruising on Russia's rivers.
