The morning trek up the nearby Chushan mountain is considered as right of passage for all visitors and the local hotels often arrange morning calls so that you can reach the summit in time for sunrise.
In the morning the surrounding jagged peaks are often poking through a layer of spongy cloud, whilst in the afternoon, when the area is often enveloped in a light layering of fog, the higher altitude forests of old cedar and pine sit in direct contrast with the palms and banana plants on the plains below.
Aside from the sunrise hike up Chushan there are many hikes in the area worth exploring and though the resort is popular year round, many tourists come in the spring when the cherry trees are in full blossom.
