Tainan has a long and colourful history and was Taiwan's provincial capital from 1663 to 1885.

It still retains a stronghold of traditional Taiwanese culture and with a combination of frequent Buddhist parades and ceremonies, and being home to over 200 temples and monuments (most within walking distance of each other), this city is an extremely enticing city and one of the highlights on the west coast of Taiwan.
