    Culturally, Taiwan has a more genuinely preserved collection of Chinese artefacts than the mainland, with the National Palace Museum in Taipei home to the world's largest collection thanks to Chiang Kai-shek's mass pilfer during the Chinese civil war.

On your tour of Tainan you will visit three of the highlights of the area, including the Chihkan Tower, Fort Anping and the Confucius Temple.

The Chihkan Tower and Fort Anping were originally built by the Dutch in 1653, though both were levelled in the 1800s by natural disasters (one by an earthquake and one by a typhoon) and are now in different states of reconstruction and disfiguration; whilst the Confucius Temple, built in 1665, is the oldest Confucius temple in Taiwan.
