Visit Shigatse, Tibet

A three-hour drive from Gyantse, Shigatse is home to the Tashilhunpo Monastery. The town is renowned for its skilled carpet weavers and we also suggest a walk around the colourful fruit and vegetable markets.

Shigatse

Tibet

A three-hour drive from Gyantse, Shigatse is home to the Tashilhunpo Monastery.

This former seat of the Panchen Lama is famed for its striking buildings, including the Maitreya Chapel - dominated by a 26-metre statue of the Future Buddha - and the Tomb of the Fourth Panchen Lama.

The town is renowned for its skilled carpet weavers and we also suggest a walk around the colourful fruit and vegetable markets.
