We work solely with the smaller expedition vessels that sail in Antarctica. We firmly believe that a trip to this amazing region should involve specialist guiding and as many disembarkations as possible, and this is what the large cruise ships cannot provide.
An Audley trip to Antarctica ensures you get off the ship on zodiac expeditions, whether to land on specific islands or the mainland itself, or spot wildlife from the water.
Between excursions, all ships provide lectures and presentations about the history, ecology and geology of the region. Antarctic expeditions last from 10 days to 31 days depending on where you depart from and where you visit, our specialists can advise you on the different itinerary options.
Accommodation facilities on all these boats are comfortable, ranging from bunk beds with shared facilities to spacious corner suites and numerous options in between. Our first hand knowledge of the boats means that we can talk you through the pros and cons of the different cabins on board to ensure that you are happy with your choice.
The most accessible part of Antarctica is the peninsula that curves up towards the tip of South America, and 10 to 18 day cruises from Ushuaia in Argentina are the most popular and economic way to visit the White Continent, there is also a ‘fly-cruise’ option from Punta Arenas in Chile which flies you over the Drake Passage. Longer itineraries of 15 to 20 days taking in the Ross Sea depart from New Zealand and Australia, and there is also an option to fly in from South Africa and then camp.
