Santa Teresa Hotel
Rio de Janeiro
The new Santa Teresa Hotel, formerly the Guimarães Ranch, has passed through a lengthy process of careful restoration preserving its charming neo colonial style and has now opened its doors to guests.
The hotel has 44 rooms and suites, many with tremendous views across the roof tops of historic Santa Teresa to the sea beyond. The rooms and communal areas have been lovingly thought through and the attention to detail has resulted in a beautiful finished product.
The hotel's floors are made of reclaimed wood, the tiles are Portuguese and if you look carefully at the archways around the bar, previously the slave quarters, you'll see the original bricks used to construct this former mansion. Rooms are decorated with indigenous art, the sacred art of Rio de Janeiro’s baroque period or historical handicrafts from Minas Gerais and the northeast region.
Although the furnishing is traditional, the hotel's facilities are not, each room enjoying a flat screen cable television, telephone and airconditioning. Outside is a 25 metre pool and a spa offering a range of services and using the products of the established Brazilian eco brand, Natura.
The restaurant serves a tasty range of contemporary cuisine (the chef is a friend of Gordon Ramsay) whilst the cachaça bar has a 'tipple' for most tastes.
Santa Teresa Hotel is located 50m from the famous Guimarães Square, close to bars, restaurants and artisan shops. Rio's most famous beaches, Copacabana and Ipanema are a taxi ride of approximately 20 minutes from the hotel.
