Uakari Floating Lodge
The Amazon Rainforest
The Uakari Floating Lodge is located inside the Mamiraua Reserve and concentrates on ecotourism activities. It has 10 simple, comfortable and ample apartments, each one about 25m², with its own bathroom and terrace, and warm shower powered by solar energy. The restaurant offers a varied menu and service standards are high.
The Reserve is a state conservation area located in the middle Solimões River (Amazon) and is part of the Várzea ecosystem, a forest flooded by the sediment-rich Amazonian rivers. It is made up of channels, lakes and the seasonally flooded forest. The trails are designed not to be physically straining and they are walked in one to three hours at the longest. During the flood season (May-July) all trails are done in a small paddle canoe (your local guide does the paddling).
Its eco credentials are creditable as it is run by local people and supports the Mamirauá Institute. Apart from research into this part of the Amazon Basin, the Institute works with natural resource management implementing forestry, fisheries, handicrafts, agriculture, and ecotourism management.
The Uakari Floating Lodge is located one and a half hours in the Lodge motorised canoe from Tefe (15 kilo weight limit).
