    For wildlife viewing, there are few better places in the world than the Pantanal between April and September. The animals and birds found here are similar to those found in the nearby Amazon, but they are much easier to spot in the Pantanal. Animals seen here include capybara, caiman, anteater, armadillo, otter, marmoset and even jaguar and puma.

Visit Praia do Forte, Brazil

Named after the fort that was built on the beach by the Portuguese in 1556, Praia do Forte is now a relaxed fishing village which has a reputation for the preservation of local flora and fauna.

Named after the fort that was built on the beach ('praia') by the Portuguese in 1556 to warn the city of Salvador of impending invasion, Praia do Forte is now a relaxed fishing village which has a reputation for the preservation of the local flora and fauna.

Inland from the coast is an area of protected forest, there is also a marshy area home to many seabirds and caiman. On the edge of the village is the Tamar Project, a preservation centre for sea turtles that lay their eggs in the nearby golden beaches.

There are many turtles at the centre, from day-old babies to fully grown adults. The town of Praia do Forte itself is a laid back place with many little restaurants and souvenir shops.
