Go fishing at Simoni Pond

Fish for Peacock Bass on Simoni Pond, near to Karanambu, which provides some of the best inland fishing in Guyana. It is ideal for catching Peacock Bass but Guyana offers an incredibly diverse range of species that can be fished for including the world's largest scaled freshwater fish called the Arapaima which can each 440lb in weight. Other speices such as the Piaiba (350lb), Jau (110lb) and the Banana fish (90lb) are all highly sought after by keen fishermen.

 
Help to rear orphaned giant river otters

You can assist the well known Diane McTurk with her work at Karanambu which involves looking after orphaned giant river otters. You can help to feed and care for them before taking them for a swim in the river. This is certainly a unique experience that enables you to get close to nature and gain a real insight into the habitat of these beautiful creatures.

See the wildlife on the Essequibo River

Searching for wildlife in the evening is one of the best times to spot snakes and caiman. Taking a boat on to the Essequibo River from the Iwokrama Field Station is an ideal way to experience this. You can cruise along the river passing pristine rainforest taking in the sights and the sounds of the jungle with one of the dedicated guides from the research station.

Stay in an Amerinidan community

A stay in the Amerindian community of Surama will provide an authentic experience of one of Guyana's indigenous communities. This community in particular has welcomed eco-tourism to the benefit of the Amerindians. You can stay in one of the lovely eco-lodges set in beautiful surroundings whilst experiencing a diverse range of excursions with your local Amerindian guide.

Stay on a cattle ranch

Deep in the interior of the country, the Dadanawa Ranch provides an ideal opportunity to experience a working ranch. If you enjoy horseriding you can join the vaqueros. Otherwise there are an abundance of opportunities to enjoy the unexplored rainforest that surrounds the ranch and your stay can be as relaxing or adventurous as you wish it to be.

Take a flight over Kaieteur Falls

At 741 feet in length the Kaieteur Falls make it into the record books as the world's largest single drop waterfall in the world. You can take a flight over the falls which is a spectacle in itself. However it is not until you land and walk to one of the many lookout platforms that you realise the sheer size and power of this breathtaking natural sight.

 
Try to spot the elusive jaguar

Travelling bewteen Iwokrama and Surama offers one of the best chances to spot the elusive jaguar. They are usually spotted along the edge of forests where roads or trails run alongside rivers. If you don't spot one you may at least get to experience their tracks. This could be one of the most impressive sights of your trip should you be lucky enough to see one.

 
View wildlife in the rainforest canopy

The Iwokrama Canopy Walkway provides the perfect chance to join the birds and experience the wildlife of the rainforest canopy. The walkway is a series of suspension bridges and observation decks of up to 30 metres in height and 154 metres in length. You can even sleep at the canopy walkway in order to awake early when wildlife activity is at its most prolific.
