Tailor-made Peru: In the News

Black jaguar cub born in Peru: 12-05-2008

A baby black jaguar has been born in captivity in Peru.

The endangered animal was born in the Huachipa Zoo in Lima, Peru and is only the third to have ever been born in captivity in the South American country.

Known as Panthera Onca, the species is considered to be near-threatened by the World Conservation Union because its habitats have been destroyed.

According to National Geographic, threats from deforestations and habitat fragmentation have caused the animal to become endangered.

The species is native to Central and South America and is just one of the many species that you might see on a luxury holiday to Peru.

One of the best places to see Peru's wildlife is the 34,000 hectare Reserva Ecologica Chaparri which was established in 2000.

Over 140 bird species can be found in the park along with pumas and anteaters.
