Bartolome Island
Undoubtedly the major draw of the Galapagos Islands is the wildlife.
This is not only because of the quality of the wildlife but also because of its fearlessness. Having had no natural predators for centuries the wildlife has taken the human visitors in their stride.
One thing to bear in mind is that although the wildlife is everywhere it is not as varied as some people may think. Only 58 species of bird have been identified in the Galapagos – 28 of which are endemic for example.
Being able to get so close to the wildlife means that you can witness the species in their natural habitat.
This includes close up viewing of the amusing blue footed booby mating dance, the inflation of the red pouch by the male great frigate birds and clicking, screeching and fighting amongst the waved albatrosses.
