Casa de Melgar
Arequipa
Casa de Melgar is conveniently located four blocks northeast of the main square in Arequipa and one block from the Santa Catalina Monastery. It is the former house of Manuel Segundo Ballon, bishop of Arequipa who organised one of the first ascents of El Misti volcano to place the cross at the summit.
It is a fine example of 18th Century architecture with thick walls and curved ceiling leading on to open courtyards. The rooms are rustic but comfortable with en-suite facilities and hot water.
