Puno is a town strung around a cold northwestern shore of Lake Titicaca.
It is not a particularly appealing town, but it is the place to begin trips out onto the legendary lake.
Lake Titicaca
The highest navigable lake in the world, Lake Titicaca is a deep blue and icy cold expanse of water that has played a vital role in the myths and legends of the ancient Inca and Aymara cultures.
Still today it is believed to be sacred to the indigenous people that live and work around its shores. Legend has it that it was from its waters that the sun god commanded his children Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo to rise, and they then created the Inca Empire.
