  • Walking & Biking

An early start as you take to the blue waters of Lake Titicaca for a taste of life as it was pre-Conquest. Enjoy the ride (about 1 and a half to 2 hours) as your motorboat takes you to the serene Taquile Island, an island of 1km by 7kms that has been inhabited for over 10,000 years.

Today ancient agricultural terracing still curves around the contours of the island, as the largely self-sufficient locals grow potato, beans and quinoa. Most of the Taquilenos are weavers or knitters and their skilled handwork is renowned throughout the Andes.

You pass many of the islanders, resplendent in their traditional dress as you walk along the paths of Taquile. Lunch will be either a picnic lunch, or soup and fish cooked for you by a Taquile family. Please note this visit to Taquile Island has a steep walk of about half an hour up several hundred steps.

You will also visit one of the floating Uros Islands, which are made out layers of the tortora reed that grows around the lake. This maybe either before or after your visit to Taquile, depending on how busy the islands are, as our boatman and guide will try to ensure you visit at a quiet time.
