Map of Chile and Peru
The Andean Condor is one of the most emblematic symbols of the Andes. One of the largest flying birds in the world, this majestic creature boasts a wingspan of over three metres, can weigh up to 15kg and has a lifespan of around 50 years. Once common from Venezuela all the way down to the tip of Patagonia, the Andean Condor is now limited in its distribution, mainly due to human activity and loss of habitat.
However, there are still some great places to see them, in Chile and Peru especially. Notable areas for spotting the Andean Condor include the Cerro Benitez near to Torres del Paine in southern Chile, and the Cruz del Condor in the Colca Canyon of southern Peru.
