Map of Guyana
Guyana is covered in tropical rainforest and boasts an abundance of parrot, macaw, toucan, stork, heron, egret and owl species, as well as the eagle and their national bird, the hoatzin.
The waterways of the interior savannah offer some of the best birdwatching in Guyana and the best way to spot the local birdlife is by boat. Sitting back and staring up at the forest canopy as you float gently down the Rupununi River makes for a truly wonderful experience, and you are sure to come across great egrets, boat billed herons, spotted sandpipers and colourful macaws preening themselves on low-hanging branches or flying overhead.
