Day 1London
Fly from London to Kuala Lumpur with Malaysia Airlines.
Transit in KL to a flight to the Burmese city of Rangoon. You will arrive here at lunchtime and have the rest of the day to relax.
Today you have a full day with your guide to explore the highlights of the city. This will include the spectacular Shwedagon Pagoda, as well as the colonial buildings and Scott market.
Day 4Rangoon - Kyaiktiyo
Drive to the Golden Rock, one of Burma's most important Buddhist sites. From the hotel you will climb to see the rock itself which is said to be held in place by a single stand of the Buddha's hair.
Day 5Kyaiktiyo - Moulmein
Continue south to Moulmein; a long drive which in places can be very bumpy. You will arrive in time to visit Kipling's pagoda and experience the distinctive colonial atmosphere of the city.
A day trip to the commonwealth cemetery at Thanbyuzat. Memorials and graves to the thousands who fell in the Burma campaign and the building of death railway are set in beautifully tended flower filled gardens. Continue on to visit the local beach resort of Setse and the interesting Yele Pagoda at Kyaikkami.
Leave Moulmein and visit Hpa An the capital of Kayin State.
Return to Rangoon where you will spend the night.
Fly to Sittwe, the capital of Rakhine state and board a small boat to Mrauk U. This is a beautiful journey of around 50 miles along the Kaladan River.
In Mrauk U you will explore the remains of the capitals of three kingdoms. There are temples dotted around the fields, and farmers stop what they are doing to wonder at the occasional tourist visiting this charming spot.
An extra day in the area gives you the chance to head to Wethali, a nearby ancient city and the original site of the famous Mahu Muni Buddha now situated in Mandalay.
Take the small boat downstream to Sittwe today in time for a flight to Rangoon. Here you will be returned to your hotel for your final night in Burma.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Kuala Lumpur and then on to the UK.
