This trip is perfect for the first time visitor to Burma, providing a well-paced tour of Burma's main highlights. The itinerary starts in the former capital of Rangoon with its crumbling colonial architecture and the shimmering Shwedagon Pagoda before flying upcountry to view the magnificent temples of Pagan. The tour follows a clockwise direction around the country to tie in with the domestic flight schedule and after Pagan takes in both Mandalay, with its vestiges of ancient cities, and the pretty town of Pindaya before arriving at Inle Lake with its serene stilted villages and interesting tribal markets.

Day by Day

Day 1London

Depart London for Bangkok where you connect with your flight to Rangoon.

Day 2Bangkok - Rangoon

On arrival in Rangoon you will be met by your guide and driver and transferred to your hotel.

Day 3Rangoon

Today you have a full day tour with your guide to explore the highlights of this former capital.

Day 4Rangoon - Pagan

You will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to the airport in time for your flight to Pagan. You have the rest of the day to explore this incredible temple landscape.

Day 5Pagan

Today you are free to explore Pagan at your own leisure.

Day 6Pagan - Mandalay

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Mandalay. Spend the afternoon exploring the city's handicraft industries, key temples and monasteries as well as visiting Mandalay Hill at sunset.

Day 7Mandalay

Spend a full day exploring the ancient cities surrounding Mandalay.

Day 8Mandalay

Visit the former colonial hill station of Maymyo and escape the heat of Mandalay.

Day 9Mandalay - Heho - Pindaya

From Mandalay you will fly to Heho. On arrival you will be met by your driver and guide and transferred to the charming town of Pindaya, here I've included a visit to one of the rural communities for lunch! Overnight in Pindaya.

Day 10Pindaya - Inle Lake

This morning you will visit the Pindaya Caves, famed in the region for the thousands of Buddha statue that cover the interior. Leave Pindaya this morning and travel back through the Shan plateau to the shores of Inle Lake where you board a small boat to transfer you to your accommodation.

Day 11Inle Lake

Explore Inle Lake today and visit the floating villages, markets and monasteries by private boat.

Day 12Inle Lake - Heho - Rangoon

Return to Rangoon where you have use of a private guide to show you a little more of city or enjoy a spot of shopping and dinner before your evening flight. In Bangkok connect with your flight to London Heathrow.

Day 13Bangkok

Early morning arrival into London Heathrow.
