Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Discover the streets of Phnom Penh with a cyclo tour of the city. A popular form of transport throughout Southeast Asia, the cyclo is still widely used in the Cambodian capital and is a comfortable way to see the sights.
Start at Wat Phnom, symbol of the city, before heading west past the National Library and Hotel Le Royal. You then pass Phnom Penh railway station before winding our way down to Psar Thmei, the leading market in the city. Continue through some of the smaller back streets, including Street 178, brimming with art shops, and Bohemian Street 240 with its cafes and boutiques. You pass Independence Monument, modeled on the central tower of Angkor Wat and continue to the elegant riverfront. Pass the glittering Royal Palace compound and the stunning National Museum before winding up at the riverfront, where there are dozens of cafes, bars and eateries to enjoy some refreshments.
The cyclo drivers used for this excursion come from the Cyclo Centre, an organisation set up to educate and support Phnom Penh's many cyclo drivers, many of whom would otherwise struggle to earn a living.
